Essentially what aperture does is let light into the lens of your digital camera. The higher your aperture setting the more light is let in.
Aperture is actually controlled as F-stop, the smaller your F-stop then the larger the lens opening or aperture is. Some cameras today will use the term aperture value instead of F-stop.
Some of the common settings are.
- Maximum aperture - This simply expresses that the maximum aperture for the lens will be the highest setting.
- Aperture Range - This will say the max. and min. aperture, the belief being that there are standard increments between them.
- Maximum wide-angle and telephoto apertures - This gives the max. aperture for the wide-angle It is really not too hard to figure out that a selected range deals with maximum apertures and not max and min apertures: the mimimum aperture should be quite small.
