Camera Aperture - What You Should Know

What is aperture?

Essentially what aperture does is let light into the lens of your digital camera. The higher your aperture setting the more light is let in.
Aperture is actually controlled as F-stop, the smaller your F-stop then the larger the lens opening or aperture is. Some cameras today will use the term aperture value instead of F-stop.
Some of the common settings are.

  • Maximum aperture -  This simply expresses  that the maximum aperture for the lens will be the highest setting.

  • Aperture Range - This will say the max. and min. aperture, the belief being that there are standard increments between them.

    • Maximum wide-angle and telephoto apertures - This gives the max. aperture for the wide-angle It is really not too hard to figure out that a selected range deals with maximum apertures and not max and min apertures: the mimimum aperture should be quite small.
